How desperate is Crawford and Co.? Arum recently announced he would be interested in offering the UFC’s Conor McGregor a two-fight deal to face Crawford, one fight under boxing rules and the other using mixed martial arts rules.
It’s not all doom and gloom in the Crawford camp, however. Brian McIntyre, Crawford’s chief trainer and manager, is confident that things will work out. He told Boxing Junkie that he recently sat down with Top Rank head Bob Arum “to talk about options” for Crawford’s next fight.
A few potential scenarios were broached: A pay-per-view fight distributed either on the ESPN+ app or through the ESPN linear channel, to take place in either Crawford’s hometown or in Las Vegas. McIntyre stayed mum on the potential opponent, but offered a general time table for his charge’s return to the ring.
“Late May, early June,” he said.
Of course, one of the biggest matches that boxing fans have been clamoring for is between Crawford and Errol Spence Jr., who defeated Shawn Porter last September to unify two welterweight belts. McIntyre insisted that they are still targeting Spence, who survived a horrific car crash in October. (Spence announced at a public appearance in December that he would return in the summer.)
“A stay busy fight , at the end of the year, a potential fight with Spence,” McIntyre said.
In the meantime, there have been rumors swirling that contender Josesito Lopez is the running for Crawford’s next fight. McIntyre shut that down, saying, “Who the hell wants to fight him?”
Pressed on why a potential fight with Shawn Porter fell through, McIntyre offered no comment.

The only important fight at the welterweight landscape was the Terence Crawford vs Errol Spence Jr. bout. But the fight doesn’t really seem to be on the card for this year, and its possibilities continue diminishing. But, Crawford’s promoter, Bob Arum, has arrived at an even better solution and has given two names he’s thinking to align ‘Bud’ with.
In a chat with Boxing Social, Arum spilled some beans on Crawford’s next fight and possible opponents for the same.
He said, “It would be a big opportunity for Terence Crawford to fight Manny Pacquiao. If that doesn’t come to fruition, then I will continue my talks with Shawn Porter and hope to do Terence against Shawn Porter. Either of them in my opinion are interesting fights.”
“But obviously, Pacquiao is Pacquiao, and if Pacquiao can get under the ring with Crawford. Obviously, that’s the way Terence would want to go,”
‘Pacman’ vs Crawford is a huge fight. The bout will unquestionably sell itself in huge numbers. Even the Top Rank CEO couldn’t agree more on this, and he lopsided towards the Pacquiao vs Crawford fight more.
But Arum even has a backup plan pertaining to this clash. He feels if by any means the Pacquiao fight falls through, he’ll abruptly get in talks with Shawn Porter‘s corner to confront the undefeated Terence Crawford.

Manny Pacquiao or Shawn Porter? Who is an ideal opponent for Terence Crawford?
Both Manny Pacquiao and Shawn Porter are absolutely big-wigs of the game. Given Terence Crawford’s magnetic profile, a fight with either of the two will do well. But a fight with ‘Pacman’ might just break the PPV numbers and go down as the best encounters in boxing history.
The Filippino Senator hasn’t competed for the whole of 2020, so he’s excited for his return this year.
And there is no one better than Terence Crawford to welcome him to the squared circle again.
Also, considering that Pacquiao is in the final steppings of his career, a fight with ‘Bud’ will only add up to his legacy. On the flip side, it’ll be equally honoring for the American to face someone as rugged as Pacquiao in his illustrious career.
It’ll be interesting to see how things play out in the coming months. Fans will be keen to hear out the dates of this fight soon.
